China’s View on the Israel and Palestine Issue

  1. The resolution of Palestine and Israelis relations after the partition of the country into two separate entities.

China is supportive of Palestine and they have stated they look forward to taking a more increased role in managing the Middle East issue. China believe in the establishment of an independent Palestinian state that enjoys full sovereignty, with East Jerusalem as its capital and based on the pre 1967 border. China are having talks at the moment the see this as opportunity to play an active and constructive role in promoting the settlement of the Palestine-Israel issue.”. China have said publicly they see the lack of “an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty” a “terrible injustice”.

China highly supports Palestinian right to self-determination and recently voted against Donald Trumps proposal in the recent symposium. A symposium is a “conference or meeting to discuss a particular subject”. Where China rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. China also voted in favor of UN Security Council Resolution 2334. United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 was adopted on 23 December 2016. It concerns the Israeli settlements in “Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem”. It demands that Israel stop such activity and fulfil its obligations as an occupying power under the Fourth Geneva Convention. China condemned Israeli settlement building on the West Bank and are very sympathetic to Palestine cause. On many occasions China has asserted their support for “the establishment of a Palestinian state with its capital being eastern Jerusalem” in a meeting with the Arab League. China have announced an aid project of 50 million Yuan ($7.6 million) for a solar power stations in the Palestinian territories.

China recognizes the need to fight for the peace and security of both entities involved but they believe this can only be achieved by creating a two separate state system. What would the two state system mean? Well, it is as it sounds, both places are states but, there are many issues both countries want boundaries and peace between them but they have always struggled on the concept who gets what land. The Jews who make up 75.4% of religion there and estimates say 6.5 million of the Israeli population are Jewish say Israel is the Jew’s homeland as the Torah talked about this being their land many thousands of years ago. These statistics and facts allows the Israelis to make the historical claim that Israel is their homeland so therefore they have the right to live there they say but the Palestinians have much more recent history there and many claim the way the Israelis have taken land and continue to take land, is completely wrong and could be considered to break international law.

Too many people have died on both sides. The way China would go about creating this peace is through as stated before is by recognizing the pre 1967 border.  The situation between Palestine and Israel as “deeply worrying” and “fragile,” ‘the two-state solution’ is the fundamental way to resolve conflicts” between them. Both countries want signed peace treaties and direct negotiation to find create recognized states and boundaries. China take the stance which pushes the resolution 242 and hope that through the two state solution both entities involved can economically grow and improve the surrounding areas. They suggest that Israel cease all settlement activities on the occupied territory and the demolition of Palestinian houses and property, China urge relevant countries to bear in mind the broader picture of peace and the lives of the people, immediately realize a ceasefire, stick to the strategic choice of peace talks and strive for a better middle east.
