Stamford Vs. St Albans

On Saturday 35th November, Stamford was set to face St Albans. Morale was down amidst the after being knocked out of the national cup by Northampton Boys School, due to a very poor overall performance. Also to further knock the confidence of Mr. Laventure’s side, big carriers such as Dave Koelman, Patrick Harrington and Ben Richards were all sidelined due to injury. However the Stamford 1st XV were hungry for a win to satisfy themselves and an ever-supportive home crowd.

When the whistle blew, Stamford received kickoff and started the game with flawless phases of dominant crashes up the middle with accurate passes going straight to hand. Stamford began to grow in confidence and passes down the back-line began to get more frequent. Possibly due to the injury of the biggest ball carriers, the home side was putting into effect an expansive style of play. That in turn was running rings around the St Albans defense. It wasn’t long before quick recycled ball and sharp offloads set up Ed Cox for the first try of the game.

This style of running-rugby became a theme for the match and Stamford were executing their chances. The 70 minutes saw a total of 4 tries scored by outside centre, Zack Godfrey as he just had too much speed and agility for the St Albans defense. Also on the score sheet were Will Leech and Toby Crane. This fashion of Rugby that Stamford was playing was exiting to watch and play. Whilst at the same time providing a defensive white wall that left St Albans at nil when the final whistle blew. Final score Stamford 56 St Albans 0
